Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3) was a long-period comet discovered in March 2020 by NASA's NEOWISE space telescope. By July 2020 it had brightened enough to become an easy naked-eye object, the finest comet visible from the northern hemisphere since Hale-Bopp in 1997, showing a long dust tail and a fainter blue ion tail. It has since receded into the outer solar system and will not return for roughly 6,800 years.
