Messier 53 (NGC 5024) is a globular cluster in Coma Berenices, discovered by Johann Bode in 1775. It is one of the more remote globulars associated with the Milky Way, lying about 58,000 light-years from the Solar System and a similar distance from the Galactic Center. It is a compact, rich cluster of old stars.
